First Thing Today
Written, performed and produced by Chris Henderson, 1999

First thing today, I made a coffee, to help wake my head
Jumped into the shower, to wash my body, while she lay in bed.
She sleeps in late, she works all night, delivering the papers
In a hotel, I move quietly, so I don't wake her
My beautiful princess

First thing today, I made a coffee, to help wake my head
Normally does the trick, but today was different
So I went back to bed

Close my eyes, clear my mind, but the sun comes
Shining through the blinds, so I get up and leave
You at 40 zeds a minute
I realise that what I have is you and I for a while
And when I go you and I both know we'll never
Lose this

And I don't want to be alone,
just me, myself and I
And I don't want to be alone,
just me, myself and I

First thing today, I made a coffee to help wake my head
Maybe I'm too late, maybe I need something different
Maybe I need to get high instead

Close my eyes, clear my mind, but the sun comes
Shining through the blinds, so I get up and leave
You at 40 zeds a minute
I realise that what I have is you and I for a while
And when I go you and I both know we'll never
Lose this

And I don't want to be alone,
just me, myself and I
And I don't want to be alone,
just me, myself and I

And I don't want to be alone,
just me, myself and I
And I don't want to be alone,
just me, myself and I
And I don't want to be alone,
just me, myself and I

First thing today, I made a coffee to help wake my head
